"A Daring Convince" -thoughts behind the painting

Sometimes words are told to convince me. They take shape and pierce through my assumptions. They prod my intellect. They mush my brain around. I can change because of them. I can be different than I am right now. A riverbed changes with the seasons as the water rushes and trickles. There is a rhythm to change.  It happens all the time around us.  But when you speak to me, the average amount of change amps up and you convince me of what I never thought possible.

"The Yearning for You is Endless" Started out as a song and then also became a painting.

"The Yearning for You is Endless"  The idea for this painting came from a song I wrote years ago called “The Yearning”  I have the full lyrics listed with the painting here, and you can also hear it on itunes or spotify or whatever because I released it on my last record. The lyrics really inform the painting.  You can almost see the “oyster shells as my palms” or the way that the painting illustrates “I will wait for the pearls to form layer by layer…” I had this image in my head for a while waiting to become a painting.  The whole idea came as one recurring image, like a recurring dream or something.  The image is of shapes...

Seeing through the illusions of life! Thoughts on “Blueprint of Meaning”

I love the idea of seeing through the clouds, or mist, or confusion, or veil of some kind.  That is a kind of superpower.  The power to see beyond the literal world.  It is something to aspire to and something that we have the ability to do in varying degrees depending on our mental state.    When we are not in a good mental state, it is really hard to see reality.  It is hard to know what to do if we are really struggling.  Hard to know where to start if we are overwhelmed.  It is important, in my opinion, not to get too comfortable in a mental state that is not healthy. It is also important to recognize...

Meditation and Creativity- clearing thoughts to make room for the good stuff

My favorite place to be is in the comforting arms of the creative process.  It doesn’t matter what the outcome is. To me, it’s all about arranging my life to get time to spend in the realm of possibilities.  This is my sacred place of self discovery.    In my early years, I used art making and music making to explore the inner workings of my personality.  I would even attack the canvas with paint, and scratching and tearing to get my anger out. As a teenager, I would skip the Friday night parties and instead stay in and spend hours reflecting, painting, making up songs… I loved being alone with my thoughts, and creative tools, to just let it...

Movement started the feel for the painting "The Peace of Repetition".

"The Peace of Repetition"   "The Peace of Repetition, Only known by going through the exercises of a lifetime. Wind blowing through the honeycomb of my blaster of my luminescence of my linear intentions. I am tamed by my schedule and the certainty of duty. But I glow when you look close. I glow not just in the night, but at all times, seen and unseen. I glow because I have to. I glow beneath the duty of this beautiful life." This idea started out as a movement. My whole body leaned to one side and danced it before I picked up a brush to paint it.  I actually moved and  as I looked at the blank canvas before me. ...
